Chamada para trabalhos em sessões especiais no âmbito do Congresso anual da MLA

O Fórum Luso-Brasileiro da Modern Language Association of America — MLA  e American Portuguese Studies Association — APSA, como organização parceira, convidam para a apresentação de propostas para o Congresso anual da Associação, que terá lugar nos dias 8 a 11 de janeiro de 2026 na cidade de Toronto, no Canadá.

As sessões promovidas no âmbito do congresso são as seguintes:

  • Afro-Brazil as Method and Theory. Papers exploring Black theorists’ epistemological contributions to (re)thinking Brazil and its racial contradictions. Trends in Afro-Brazilian literary theory and its intersections with ethnic, cultural, and decolonial studies are welcome. 200-word abstract + short bio to Felipe Fanuel Xavier Rodrigues (ffanuel@gmail.com ) by March 24, 2025.
  • Artivism: Social Justice and Solidarity in Lusophone Cultures. Papers exploring Lusophone cultural artifacts (film, music, literature, other visual arts and cultural events) that explicitly commit to social justice, the defense of human rights, social responsibility and solidarity. 200-word abstract + short bio to Ana Cláudia São Bernardo (saobe001@umn.edu ) and Paulo Dutra (pdutra@unm.edu) by March 21, 2025.
  • Portugal for Whom? Papers exploring identity, belonging, kinship, and exclusion in contemporary Portugal. Topics may include migration, race, citizenship, decolonization, and social justice. Interdisciplinary approaches welcome. Please submit a 200-word abstract and short bio to Pedro Craveiro (pedrocraveiro@ucsb.edu ) by March 15, 2025.

  • Re-reading Guimarães Rosa in the Twenty-First Century; New approaches to Grande sertão:veredas and the novellas in Corpo de baile on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the publication of these two major works. 150-word abstract and short bio to Luiz Fernando Valente (luiz_valente@brown.edu) by March 20, 2025.
  • Found Families: Migrant and Diasporic Voices in Portuguese. Papers exploring migration and diaspora in Luso-Afro-Brazilian literature and culture. Possible topics include familial bonds; intergenerational strains; alternative forms of kinship; and shifting views of race, nation, or language. 200-word abstract + short bio to Krista Brune (kbrune@psu.edu) by March 20, 2025.
