Call for Papers
Interdisciplinary in nature and scope, Critical Heritage Studies is a vibrant field of research. In all its conceptual, methodological and analytical diversity, mobilizing distinct disciplines and promoting their fruitful dialogue, Critical Heritage Studies can be particularly relevant to the study of the living cultural heritages of the communities and landscapes that were influenced by the Portuguese diasporas through time. This special issue aims to gather studies—originating in diverse disciplinary domains, and potentially fostering interdisciplinary cross-fertilizations—that deal with the multifaced nature of this topic and discuss “heritage” and “influence” as critical cultural and political arguments and practices, and as historical manifestations entailing different perspectives, motivations and consequences, formed in colonial and postcolonial situations, imagining the past, the present and the future.
The themes this special issue intends to foster include the following:
- The history of heritage politics and policies in the Portuguese speaking-world
- Colonial and postcolonial heritage(s) and legacies: Pasts in the present
- Language and heritage: past, present, future
- The cultures of heritage: the role of humanities and social sciences
- Heritage, development and sustainability
- Diasporic heritage(s)
- Heritage and sustainable tourism
- Dominant and alternative pedagogies of heritage
Please send an abstract of up to 300 words to PLCS Executive Editor Mario Pereira (mpereira6@umassd.edu), before April 15, 2019. The proposals will be selected and authors informed by April 30, 2019.
