Rice University’s Center for Languages and lntercultural Communication (CLIC) invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in Portuguese and Spanish.

This two-year appointment will begin 1 July 2020. Upon successful performance review, the appointee can be offered additional contracts.

Responsibilities include teaching, with special attention to the design, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of the syllabus, exams and other assessment instruments and daily lessons and development of a coherently articulated program of instruction across levels of competency.

Teaching takes place in the context of implementing our innovative, research-based curriculum and participating in CLIC governance (e.g. faculty meetings). Additional responsibilities may include assisting with the
development and revision of assessment instruments.

Salary will be commensurate with credentials, experience and demonstrated ability to develop research-based, innovative second language curricula. Rice offers good institutional support for professional development and state-of-the-art technological facilities are available.


Education Required: Master's Degree
Specify Concentration / Degree Type: Second Language Education or related degree
Education Preferred: Ph.D.

Other Required Qualifications     

Native or near-native ability in Portuguese and Spanish and at least 1 year teaching experience at the U.S. university level. If M.A. is not in Foreign Language Education, 1 year of training in second language pedagogy. Competence to teach Portuguese and Spanish is required.
