O objetivo desta conferência é discutir as múltiplas faces da escravatura de mulheres na América e em África, a partir de uma perspetiva comparativa, regional ou local.

As propostas devem ser enviadas em português, inglês ou espanhol, contendo um título, nome do candidato, endereço eletrónico, um resumo até 300 palavras e uma nota biográfica com um máximo de 200 palavras. As propostas devem ser enviadas para conferencewomenslavery@gmail.com.

The objective of this conference is to discuss the multiple faces of slavery of women and girls in America and Africa, from a comparative, regional or local perspective. We welcome communications that address, among others, the following topics: sources for the study of slavery; theoretical and methodological perspectives; forms of enslavement; social, economic and political experiences; religion and slavery; life trajectories; forms of labour exploitation; marriage, family, childhood and motherhood; body and sexuality; slavery, rights and justice; slavery and material culture; intercontinental and regional slave trade; collective or individual resistance strategies; abolitionism; post-abolition societies; marginalisation and citizenship; social memories of slavery.

General information

Proposals should be sent in Portuguese, English or Spanish, containing a title, name of the applicant, email address, an abstract of up to 300 words and a biographical note of a maximum of 200 words. Proposals must be sent to conferencewomenslavery@gmail.com.

The Organising Committee does not have funding available to support the participation of young researchers. However, registration fees will not be charged.

Participants with accepted communication must register prior to the event.

A volume with a selection of the communications presented at the conference is expected to be published after the event.

Important dates

25th March 2024: deadline for submitting proposals.

15th April 2024: communication of accepted proposals.

15th April to 15th May 2024: registration of participants with accepted proposals.

30th May 2024: provisional programme.
