Lecturer and Director of Portuguese and Spanish Language Programs

The Latin American and Iberian Studies Department at the University of Massachusetts Boston invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Lecturer to serve as the DIRECTOR OF PORTUGUESE AND SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAMS beginning September 1, 2020.  The Department is a multidisciplinary unit composed of Latin American Studies, Translation Studies, and Literature and Cultural Studies. The unit includes a Language Program composed of Elementary and Intermediate Portuguese and Spanish courses.

We seek an experienced academic professional with a strong desire to lead in the innovation and transformation of the Portuguese and Spanish language curriculum.  Applicants should have a solid commitment to move towards a content-based curricular design in all language courses and a strong interest in exploring the integration of cultural competence into the language curriculum.

Responsibilities:

• In charge of all aspects of the language programs in Portuguese and Spanish, including curricular development, course preparation and management, supervising instructors, and some administrative tasks.
• The teaching duties are four language classes per academic year. This is a full-time benefited position made on an academic-year basis.

Academic Qualifications:

• Master’s degree required (doctorate preferred) in an appropriate academic field.
• Native or near native proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and English.
• Knowledge of instructional technology preferred.
