O Centro de Estudos e Cultura Portugueses da Universidade de Massachusetts Dartmouth está com candidaturas abertas à cátedra Hélio and Amélia Pedroso / Luso-American Foundation (FLAD) em Estudos Portugueses, para a primavera de 2020.
 
Fundada em 2001 pelo Centro de Estudos e Cultura Portuguesa, a Cátedra Hélio and Amélia Pedroso / Luso-American Foundation em Estudos Portugueses permite a atribuição de uma vaga para um/a ilustre estudioso/a, professor/a ou autor/a, com especialização no mundo de língua portuguesa. A cátedra é um programa de rotação para a visita de estudiosos visando o desenvolvimento do programa de pós-graduação e licenciatura interdisciplinar em Estudos Portugueses, bem como os objetivos de pesquisa e as séries de publicação do centro.

The Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at UMass Dartmouth for Spring 2020

The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture/Tagus Press (CPSC/TP) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is seeking candidates for the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at UMass Dartmouth for the Spring term of 2020 (January through May).

Established in 2001 by the CPSC/TP, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at UMass Dartmouth allows for the appointment of a distinguished scholar, professor and/or author, specializing in any area of the humanities and social sciences of the vast and diverse Portuguese-speaking world, comprised of over 220 million people in eight countries, on four continents. 

The Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies at UMass Dartmouth is a rotating, visiting distinguished scholar program that supports the interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs in Portuguese Studies and the research objectives and publications of the CPSC/TP. The Endowed Chair will teach one graduate course during the Spring semester (January through May) and will deliver one or more public lectures in her or his area of expertise. The Endowed Chair may also contribute to the publication and event agenda of the CPSC/TP. If applicable, please provide a summary of potential collaborations on publications and/or the organization of events with the application. The rate of compensation for the 14-week period is $55,000 USD (before taxes). 

Teaching responsibilities include: Teaching one graduate course on the humanities and/or social sciences of the Portuguese-speaking societies.

The Endowed Chair will give a public lecture (to be recorded and published online by the Center) on a topic of her or his expertise and of interest to the Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture/Tagus Press.

The Endowed Chair is expected to contribute in some way to the agenda of the Center’s Tagus Press, e.g., by co-organizing a scholarly colloquium to be followed by a book project.

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

(1) PhD in hand if applicable as a terminal degree in the candidate’s discipline;

(2) record of research and publication in the humanities or social sciences relative to Portuguese-speaking societies;

(3) demonstrated ability to teach a graduate course (MA & PhD levels) in the broad field of Luso-Afro-Brazilian Studies.

Preferred qualifications: record of event organization and/or editorial activity in the candidate’s field.
