  1. questões do feminino nas reescritas literárias e artísticas;
  2. traduções comentadas de orientação feminista ou que abordem as questões do feminino (as traduções devem ser de textos em domínio público ou ter autorização legal da autora/do autor do texto fonte);
  3. estudos de caso de traduções ou tradutoras, abordando a perspectiva feminina;
  4. biografias de mulheres tradutoras;
  5. textos teóricos que se concentrem sobre a discussão de questões de gênero na área dos Estudos da Linguagem (Estudos da Tradução, Análise do Discurso, Linguística, etc.);

Revista Escrita – PUC-Rio Issue 24 - 2018.1
Call for papers (regular thematic issue)

Female Voices: narratives and artistic and literary rewritings

Images and metaphors linking women and translation have always been in plentiful supply – and strangely hostile, insofar as they appear within what Gilbert & Grubar identified as the “architecture of an overwhelmingly male-dominated society” in The Madwoman in the Attic: The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth-Century Literary Imagination (2000). Women, like translations, tend to be interpreted as a necessary evil, no more than secondary figures, of lesser importance. If they happen to be beautiful, then their physical attractiveness only goes to confirm their infidelity – as expressed in the hackneyed French metaphor of the belles infidèles, discussed in depth by Sherry Simon in Gender in Translation: Cultural Identity and the Politics of Transmission (1996).

This thematic issue centered on the field of Language Studies encompasses researches from fields such as Translation Studies, Discourse Analysis, Linguistics and related areas. It is open to scientific articles, annotated translations, translations of unpublished works, reviews, and interviews that discuss gender issues and feminist orientations and approaches in narratives, translations and other literary and artistic rewritings. It is worth noting that the term rewriting comprises other forms of rereading of works, authors, and artistic manifestations, such as critical reviews, anthologies, prefaces, and intersemiotic transpositions from literature to dance, music, and visual and audiovisual art. Since rewritings help assemble the identities of works and authors in the cultures and languages for which they are produced, reflecting certain ideologies and poetological motifs, this special issue aims to cover feminist and women’s questions in the different literary and artistic forms that derive from others.

Submissions are invited for papers that address one or more of the topics below:

  1. women in literary and artistic rewritings;
  2. annotated translations of a feminist orientation or that discuss gender and/or feminist issues (please note that the source texts must be in the public domain or be legally authorized by the original author);
  3. case studies that discuss either women translators or translations in the light of a feminist perspective;
  4. biographies of female translators;
  5. theoretical texts or essays that focus on gender issues in the field of Language Studies (Translation Studies, Discourse Analysis, Linguistics etc.);
  6. essays about or reviews of books that deal with women and/or feminist issues.
