Qualificações requeridas:

General Summary of Position:

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites candidates to apply for a one year visiting full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Lecturer to start in the Fall Semester, September 2018. This full-time appointment includes full benefits. Primary responsibilities are to provide high quality teaching and service to the department.

The responsibilities are 60-80% teaching, 20-40% service with the regular teaching load 3-to-4 courses per semester depending on service assignments. Responsibilities will consist of teaching courses at the undergraduate level in language, literature and culture as needed. The successful candidate will be involved in service to the department, college and university as needed and will fulfill any outreach activities, actively participating in continuing efforts to recruit students, including minors in the Portuguese program and to improve the department's educational mission. Examples of courses that the candidate will teach include: Portuguese 1 through 4 and other undergraduate 3000 and 4000 level culture courses, in Portuguese or English, as needed.

Area of specialization is open. The ideal candidate will enhance the student's learning experience by integrating a variety of methods and strategies into the teaching process and maintaining a student learning-centered environment. Knowledge of second language proficiency assessment and ACTFL standards is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Ph.D. in Portuguese Studies in hand by May 2018
  • Native or near-native command of Portuguese and English
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level required at the time of application
  • Ability to work within an articulated program under the current Portuguese coordinator
  • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
