Fall 2017

The Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture (CPSC) at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is seeking candidates for The Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/Luso-American Foundation Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies Fall 2017. Established in 2001 by the CPSC, the Hélio and Amélia Pedroso/FLAD Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies allows for the appointment of a distinguished scholar, professor and/or author, specializing in any area of the humanities and social sciences of the vast and diverse Portuguese-speaking world, comprised of over 220 million people in eight countries, on four continents.

The Endowed Chair is a rotating visiting distinguished scholar program that supports the interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate program in Portuguese Studies and the research objectives and various publication series of the Center. The Endowed Chair will teach one graduate course during the fall semester (September-December 2017) and will deliver one or more public lectures in her or his area of expertise. The selected candidate may also contribute to our publication series. If applicable, please summarize any ideas for such prospective editorial collaboration. The rate of compensation for the period is USD $55,000.00 (before taxes).

Applicants should submit a letter of interest, CV and a proposal specifying their planned research and activities for the semester, including a tentative course syllabus.  All materials should be addressed to the Chair of the Committee, Professor Victor K. Mendes, and emailed to the Center’s Administrative Assistant, Lisa Tavares, at ltavares4@umassd.edu. The deadline to apply is April 20, 2017 at 12:00pm, Eastern Standard Time.
