O Galician Centre ― Irish Centre for Galician Studies, University College Cork, convida para a submissão de resumos ao congresso Re-encountering the canon: Literary Translation and Contemporary Iberia, a ter lugar nos dias 23 e 24 de setembro de 2016 em Cork, Irlanda.

Este congresso pretende explorar o papel da tradução literária no que diz respeito à formação do cânone no contexto da Ibéria moderna e contemporânea, com especial incidência em aspetos como os interesses concorrentes de normas académicas, educacionais e editoriais; a política de tradução, as subvenções e o patrocínio; a divulgação, o marketing e a receção; e as novas abordagens para o fenómeno da retradução.

Os resumos (até 250 palavras) deverão ser enviados para o Dr. Martín Veiga (m.veiga@ucc.ie) até ao 25 de agosto de 2016 (prazo prorrogado).

O evento contará com a participação de Craig Patterson, que irá apresentar a sua tradução para inglês do livro Sempre em Galiza, de Castelao.

Re-encountering the Canon: Literary Translation and Contemporary Iberia

This symposium seeks to explore the role of literary translation with regard to canon formation in the context of modern and contemporary Iberia, with special focus on aspects such as the competing interests of academic, educational and publishing norms; translation policy, subventions and patronage; dissemination, marketing and reception; and new approaches to the phenomenon of re-translation. It aims to facilitate a space for discussion of the ways in which literary translation may contribute to the (re)construction and/or consolidation of a canon by looking at developments such as the recent English translations of classics from the different languages of the Iberian Peninsula and the consolidation of new publishing houses such as Hispabooks, a Spanish press that publishes fiction from Iberia in English translation. The symposium also sets out to examine the negotiation and reframing of shifting and competing notions of identity through translation both into and out of the different languages coexisting in the Iberian context.

Apart from the presentation of research papers, the symposium will feature a variety of events and activities including round table discussions, book launches and readings. We welcome contributions from scholars and practitioners (writers, translators, publishers, etc.).
